TVK CANDIDATE 2026 (CONFIRMED WITH NOTE)
V. Rajkumar
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam · Solo contest · Whistle symbol · Debut candidate
MIDTVK contests all 234 seats solo. V. Rajkumar is a debut candidate with no prior electoral history. His campaign must be entirely built on personal credibility, TVK's Vijay brand, and constituency-specific issue ownership.
DMK - SITTING MLA
G. Ayyappan (G. Iyappan)
DMK · SPA · Sitting MLA since 2021
Won 2021: 84,563 (46.46%) · 2006 winner (DMK wave) · Full SPA machinery · 5-year incumbency · DMK ruling party
MID - 2026 candidate is A.S. Chandrasekaran⚠ G. Ayyappan has contested this seat multiple times and knows the voter network. His incumbency includes both delivery credits and accountability liabilities. TVK must audit both with equal rigour.
AIADMK + NTK 2026
AIADMK: M.C. Sampath HIGH - DT Next 2nd list confirmed
3-time contestant (won 2011, 2016; lost 2021). His 2021 loss by 5,151 makes him a credible challenger on paper but his association with both wins and the AIADMK brand now tied to NDA/BJP reduces his appeal to younger voters.
NTK: Candidate not confirmed. In 2021, NTK's Kadal Deepan contested. NTK vote pool is TVK's primary natural acquisition target. INSUF - verify at ECI
Key question for TVK: does NTK field a candidate? If they do, it reduces the NTK protest vote available to TVK. If NTK does not contest, TVK gets a significant free vote pool.
2011 and 2016: AIADMK won with comfortable margins (33,678 and 24,413). 2021: DMK swung back with 5,151 margin. The seat flipped in both directions across three elections - signalling structural volatility that TVK can exploit. Note: the same candidates (Sampath and Pugazhendi/Ayyappan) have contested repeatedly.
AIADMK won 2011 (85,953) and 2016 (70,922). DMK has been the more consistent winner historically. Both parties' vote totals grow over time with electorate expansion, making absolute vote comparisons across cycles partially confounded. The key insight: in 2021, DMK polled its highest-ever absolute vote in this seat (84,563) while AIADMK also polled high (79,412), suggesting growing overall participation.
| YEAR | WINNER | PARTY | VOTES | VOTE% | RUNNER-UP | PARTY | VOTES | MARGIN | ELECTORATE | TURNOUT | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2021 | G. Ayyappan | DMK | 84,563 | 46.46% | M.C. Sampath | AIADMK | 79,412 | DMK +5,151 | 2,39,474 | 76% | |
| 2016 | M.C. Sampath | AIADMK | 70,922 | 41.06% | E. Pugazhendi | DMK | 46,509 | AIADMK +24,413 | 2,31,205 | 74.69% | |
| 2011 | M.C. Sampath | AIADMK | 85,953 | 60.56% | E. Pugazhendi | DMK | 52,275 | AIADMK +33,678 | 1,81,920 | 78.01% | |

NTK exact votes in 2021 not retrieved - Oneindia names NTK Kadal Deepan as third candidate. Based on DMK+AIADMK accounting for ~90.09% of the vote, approximately 17,761 votes (~9.91%) went to NTK + NOTA + other independents. TVK's 2026 first-priority acquisition: this ~17,000 vote pool. Second priority: the AIADMK base erosion via the NDA/BJP alignment disconnect with younger Cuddalore voters.
SITTING MLA 2021 · DMK · SPA · RULING PARTY · CUDDALORE DISTRICT VETERAN
3-TIME CONTESTANT (WON 2011, 2016; LOST 2021) · AIADMK 2ND LIST CONFIRMED
FACT DMK 4/7 wins since 1991. Cuddalore is historically DMK turf - not AIADMK. The 2021 win for G. Ayyappan was a restoration of the historical pattern. TVK enters as the first genuinely new political force in this constituency in 50 years.
TVK IMPLICATION In a constituency that has historically bounced between DMK and AIADMK, TVK must present itself as the first candidate who is "neither" - building a new coalition of NTK protest voters, AIADMK voters who reject BJP, and new first-time voters.
FACT SIPCOT industrial complex (petrochemicals). Fishing harbour (major). Leather tanneries. Urban services. BHEL Trichy proximity. Agricultural hinterland (28.45% rural - sugarcane, paddy).
TVK IMPLICATION Three distinct economic communities - industrial workers, fishermen, urban services - each have specific, documentable TVK pledges available. Rajkumar must be seen visiting each community personally in the first 5 days.
FACT SC 20.16% - major community cohort. Coastal fishing community with significant Christian minority. Industrial worker community (OBC, SC). Cuddalore has a historically diverse social composition given its port and trading history.
TVK IMPLICATION TVK's social justice platform - Vijay's personal credibility on SC rights, anti-caste discrimination, and welfare universalism - has direct resonance in Cuddalore's 20.16% SC population. V. Rajkumar must make one specific SC welfare pledge that is named and verifiable.
FACT 71.55% urban - above-average smartphone and WhatsApp penetration. Cuddalore district literacy ~78%. TVK's digital infrastructure (party WhatsApp, YouTube, Instagram) is its single biggest structural advantage over NTK and the primary channel to reach first-time voters.
TVK IMPLICATION Launch "Cuddalore TVK" WhatsApp and Instagram channel on Day 1. V. Rajkumar's daily ground-level video (fishing harbour visit, SIPCOT worker meeting, SC community meeting) is the content engine. Vijay brand amplifies every post organically.
FACT Cuddalore is a coastal district severely affected by cyclones (Gaja 2018, Vardah 2016). SIPCOT petrochemical pollution is a documented environmental concern in the region. The Cuddalore Old Harbour area and fishing zones are vulnerable to both storm damage and industrial effluent.
TVK IMPLICATION Cyclone relief adequacy and SIPCOT industrial effluent management are TVK's two environmental pledges. The fishermen community's cyclone compensation and TANGEDCO power to fishing harbours are specifically named, verifiable issues.
FACT ECI MCC in force. TVK Whistle symbol confirmed for AC155. Nomination deadline: 6 April 2026. All outputs comply with RPA 1951, DPDPB 2023, ECI MCC. Candidate name discrepancy (B vs V Rajkumar) must be resolved at ECI affidavit before any campaign material is printed.
TVK IMPLICATION File nomination on Day 1 of the window - do not wait. Filing early creates news, secures symbol, and signals campaign seriousness that a debut TVK candidate in a DMK stronghold needs to establish immediately.
FACT Cuddalore is a major fishing harbour. Fishermen community affected by Cyclone Gaja 2018 and Vardah 2016. Recurring compensation delays, vessel damage, harbour infrastructure maintenance are documented concerns.
INFER SIPCOT Cuddalore park houses petrochemical and industrial units with significant workforce. Industrial workers face ESIC adequacy issues, contractor wage arrears, and occupational safety gaps that are specifically documentable through RTI and Labour Department data.
FACT SC 20.16% - the largest single demography-based voter pool with a documented agenda gap between political promises and delivery. TVK's Vijay has the strongest personal credibility on SC rights issues among all 2026 contestants.
Attack G. Ayyappan's 5-year record: "Cuddalore's fishermen are still waiting for their Cyclone Gaja compensation in full. SIPCOT workers' ESIC queue hasn't shortened. G. Ayyappan's MLA term has five years of receipts. We are filing RTI for every receipt." Frame this as evidence-based accountability, not personal attack.
Attack M.C. Sampath's BJP alliance: "In 2011 and 2016, Cuddalore voted for M.C. Sampath as an AIADMK candidate. In 2026, voting for Sampath means voting for AIADMK-NDA which means voting for BJP. Cuddalore did not choose BJP. Cuddalore's own candidate is V. Rajkumar."
Key message: PROPOSAL "DMK had 5 years and AIADMK had 10 before that. Between them, Cuddalore's fishermen still wait, its SIPCOT workers still suffer, and its SC families still lack complete housing. Both parties have had their chance with Cuddalore. 2026 is Cuddalore's own turn - with TVK."
Anti-spoiler messaging from Day 1: TVK is the only party that can claim to draw from BOTH AIADMK voters (who reject BJP) AND NTK protest voters simultaneously - making TVK's presence strengthening for anti-establishment voters rather than splitting them. "TVK is not dividing the opposition. TVK IS the opposition. The party that contests for you - not the party that contests against you."
V. Rajkumar's personal story: This is the most critical unknown gap. The moment his background is known - profession, community, prior public work - this section must be updated. His personal narrative is the glue that holds TVK's coalition together in AC155. A fisherman's son? A SIPCOT worker's brother? An SC rights activist? Each profile generates a different and powerful coalition anchor.
Key message: PROPOSAL "V. Rajkumar chose to contest from Cuddalore because Cuddalore chose him. TVK reviewed thousands of applications and chose the candidate who knows this harbour, this factory, this street. Not the candidate the party machine produced - the candidate Cuddalore produced."
Three specific forward pledges: (1) Cuddalore Fishermen's Livelihood Protection Motion - table a Private Member Bill demanding a 90-day maximum for cyclone compensation disbursement to all Cuddalore fishing families (documented maximum vs current years-long delays). (2) Cuddalore SIPCOT Worker Welfare Assembly Question - demand a public audit of ESIC hospital capacity, contract wage compliance status, and safety inspection frequency for all units in Cuddalore SIPCOT. (3) Cuddalore SC Housing Completion Mission - Assembly Question demanding village-wise PMAY completion status for AC155 SC beneficiaries.
Key message: PROPOSAL "Cuddalore is Tamil Nadu's oldest port. It deserves the state's newest politics. V. Rajkumar brings TVK's new political energy to the oldest harbour in this state - not to replace its traditions, but to give its working people the representation they have never fully received."
Fishing community after every cyclone: "Cuddalore's fishermen rebuild after every storm. Their government should rebuild with them - not make them wait for compensation while banks demand loan repayment. Rajkumar's pledge: a Cuddalore Fishermen's Emergency Response Protocol - an MLA-level commitment to filing RTI on all pending compensation claims within 7 days of any cyclone event."
SIPCOT contract workers: "The workers in Cuddalore's chemical plants are on contract. They have no job security, limited ESIC access, and no union representation in many units. V. Rajkumar will table an Assembly Question on contract labour compliance in Cuddalore SIPCOT - specifically naming the units with the most documented violations."
SC community housing: "The 20.16% of Cuddalore's voters who are Scheduled Caste deserve a MLA who specifically monitors their PMAY housing completion. Not generically. By name. By village. By family. Rajkumar will do this - with a public register of AC155 SC pending housing cases that he updates quarterly."
FACT Cuddalore is one of Tamil Nadu's significant fishing harbours. The fishing community was severely impacted by Cyclone Gaja (November 2018) and earlier storms - with documented delays in compensation disbursement by state and central agencies. Fishing vessel damage, net loss, and harbour infrastructure deterioration are recurring post-cyclone issues that the community faces without adequate MLA-level advocacy at the Assembly.
PROPOSAL V. Rajkumar will: (a) File an Assembly Written Question in Week 1 demanding the TN Fisheries Department to publish a complete list of all Cuddalore district fishermen families with pending post-Gaja (2018) and subsequent cyclone compensation - including amount due, amount paid, and pending amount. Making this data public is itself a form of accountability. (b) Table a Private Member Bill: the Tamil Nadu Fishermen Cyclone Compensation Guarantee Bill - demanding a maximum 90-day disbursement timeline for any cyclone compensation to fishing families from the date of damage assessment. (c) Advocate for TNEB/TANGEDCO power supply regularisation for Cuddalore harbour cold storage facilities - a specific commercial infrastructure issue that directly impacts fishermen's income from catch preservation.
INFER The SIPCOT Cuddalore Industrial Complex in Cuddalore district houses petrochemical, chemical, and industrial units with a significant workforce - including contract labour with limited social security coverage. Industrial workers in this zone face ESIC access gaps (ESIC hospital capacity relative to industrial workforce size), contract wage compliance issues (below-minimum-wage practices in some smaller units), and occupational safety inspection gaps (annual vs recommended quarterly inspections for hazardous industrial units). These are documentable through RTI and TN Labour Department data. MID
PROPOSAL Rajkumar will: (a) Table an Assembly Written Question demanding TN Labour Department to disclose: (1) number of ESIC-covered workers in Cuddalore SIPCOT vs total workforce, (2) last 3 years of safety inspection records for all SIPCOT Cuddalore units, (3) pending contract wage arrear cases in Cuddalore district. (b) Table a Private Member Motion demanding the Cuddalore SIPCOT zone be designated a "Labour Welfare Priority Zone" with quarterly instead of annual safety inspections for hazardous chemical units. (c) Advocate for expansion of ESIC hospital capacity in Cuddalore district proportionate to the documented industrial workforce size.
FACT SC population in AC155 is 20.16% - among the highest SC shares in this war room series. PMAY housing completion backlogs affect SC communities across Tamil Nadu, including in Cuddalore. The coastal SC fishing community in Cuddalore faces a compound disadvantage of caste discrimination and climate vulnerability - cyclone-affected SC fishing families face the longest recovery timelines given limited asset bases.
PROPOSAL V. Rajkumar will: (a) File an RTI within 30 days of swearing-in on all PMAY-sanctioned but incomplete housing units in AC155 by ward/village - making the SC housing completion backlog publicly visible. (b) Table an Assembly Written Question demanding the District Collector to publish the timeline for completing all pending PMAY SC housing units in Cuddalore AC155. (c) Direct a portion of MLACDS Year 1 allocation toward water, power, and road access infrastructure for the 3 most underserved SC colony clusters within AC155's boundary - identified through the RTI data.
